Acquisitions are one part of Turnils North America’s strategy. Often, these acquisitions include all assets the merging company offers—including its website. Turnils’ Creative Team Manager, Elizabeth Mills, along with IT, is responsible for migrating the formerly independent websites onto Turnils’ WordPress hosting platform and ensuring the existing websites meet best practices in terms of website design, organization and security.

Assuring site security and stability

Turnils hosting is often combined with CloudFlare to protect its WordPress sites against a multitude of potential issues, including cyberattacks, malware, license lapses, and poorly managed analytics.  Before the newly acquired site can join the network of websites on Turnils hosting platform though, it must be cleared of security breaches and modified to meet the company’s quality and security standards.

The expanding needs of a growing company are familiar to Matt.  He explains, “Many larger businesses have dozens of websites and don’t necessarily have a central protocol in place when it comes to WordPress security, workflows or standards.  This is often due to the cross-functional nature of website development where many stakeholders may have been involved in the initial website build.”

All websites being onboarded into the Inspry maintenance program receive a comprehensive, custom website audit as part of standard procedure and this is considered an essential step in every website optimization process. “It’s a custom audit process we built that is completed by an actual human—but it’s standardized. We go through the same points across all audits pulling from our years of experience seeing a variety of pitfalls and hidden issues that may not be apparent right away,” Matt explains.

They enroll the website into their on-going managed services program and have a monthly retainer to address product, IT and creative’s on-going needs.” He continues, “It gives them universal benchmarks across all sites that make decisions around how they initiate their digital marketing easier.”

But for a lot of it, our lead developer in Atlanta manually goes through each point and checks the files, the server integrity, the database structure, the structure, and everything else to ensure it’s handled properly.”

This process checks deeply for malware, ensures Google Analytics  is set up properly and reviews the site’s commercial software licensing to provide the on-going licenses Turnils will need to retain for the website annually. Then, Inspry sweeps the WordPress site for unnecessary or vulnerable plug-ins, providing alternative replacements and then updates the remaining plug-ins and themes.

We have to get it in the system as soon as the site is within their possession.”

While Inspry follows its processes and procedures, Matt appreciates when companies have tools or strategies in place. He says previously acquired sites had some tools they used on every site before. It’s very specific to them and we took that into account.”
